| Malta loose in semi finals |
25/02/2010 14:18:26 Malta's great performance in the European Pool Championships held in England was halted in the semi finals by world champions England. After finishing second in the group stages Malta faced favourites and cup holders England in the semi finals. In the first session Malta took a lead of 3-2 and kept the same pace by ending second session up by 6-4. The opening frame of third session gave the Maltese a 7-4 lead and left the Maltese side chasing another frame to reach the grand final. Unfortunately things ran the other way round and England recouped and beat Malta 8-7 in the last decisve frame. Although it was hard to swallow this defeat the Maltese national team once again left its mark and achieving European semi finals with an un experienced national team can only be said and marked as a GREAT PERFORMANCE. On another note Kevin Schembri made it through the last 16 stages of the singles event while Kevin Thomas eliminated Stephen Demsey European Champion two years ago. |
